Monday, 20 June 2016

Noble Numismatics Sale 112 has been extended to Monday 25 July 2016 with two sessions that day commencing at 4.30pm and 7.30pm. The sessions are Stamps, Documents and Numismatic Literature and Australian Historical Medals at 4.30pm and Miscellaneous including jewellery at 7.30pm.

The following three days have five sessions each day commencing at 9.30am. In total there are 4,920 lots with estimates totalling over $5.5 million. During the second evening session there is an important series of early pre-decimal patterns and proofs with estimates of nearly one million dollars for thirty-nine lots featuring the finest-known gem specimen proof 1914H florin. The section commences with a pattern 1855 half sovereign with the portrait of            Queen Victoria by L C Wyon. Despite some circulation it is estimated at $40,000 due to its excessively rarity. In Australian Commonwealth a series of proofs originally from H G Williams (of Dunedin NZ) have been included.

Another great addition is the NSW Holey Dollar (Mira Noble 1792/3) from the Eric Wodack, John Gartner, Ray Jewell, Ian Errey and Edwards H Metcalf collections estimated at $200,000. The coin is believed to be among the finest fifteen holey dollars known.

In Australian gold an Adelaide pound from the first or cracked die leads a series of five Adelaide pounds. It is in very fine condition and estimated at $50,000.

In military medals there is a WW1 trio to Leading Seaman Gordon Corbould of the submarine AE1, lost in German New Guinea in 1914. This is the first time medals to an Australian serving on AE1 have been offered for sale together with all associated material for Leading Seaman Corbould including many family documents and photos.
