SOUTHERN BRITAIN, Inscribed issue, Atrebates and Regini, Tincomarus Medusa type, (c.25 - 10 B.C.), gold quarter stater, (1.20 g), obv. TINC on rectangular beaded tablet, A below tablet, C above, rev. male gorgon-like head facing, wing protruding from head and three snakes above, snake to left and right, (S.77, ABC 1076, BMC 811-26, M 97, Van A 378, CCI 07.0024 [this coin]). Beautifully centred neat round flan of rose gold, Medusa head clearly displayed, complete legend, nearly extremely fine and very rare.

Tincomarus 'great in peace' ruled the Regini for around 30 years from his capital at Chichester. He introduced the bold new coinage displaying the named tablet on the obverse.



Chris Rudd notes that this is the finest example of this rare type that he has handled.
