Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $1,200

ANCIENT BRITISH, North Thames Region, Tasciovanos, Inscribed coins, Tasciovanos Tasci type, (c.25 B.C.-12 A.D.), gold quarter stater, (1.31 g), obv. crossed wreaths one curved, ringed pellets at ends, back-to-back crescents at centre, TASCI in angles, rev. full bodied horse to right, corded mane, bucranium above, TASC around, (S.223, ABC 2595, Van A 1692, NT 7, BMC 1641, M 153). Pleasant rose gold, nice flan, sharply struck with a noble horse and clear lettering, nearly extremely fine or better and rare.

Private purchase from Chris Rudd, list 106, #44.

Unusually for Tasciovanos quarter staters, this type carries his name on both sides, the reason most probably being propaganda. Rainer Kretz estimates there are only a dozen of these quarter staters in existence and this is one of the finest known.
