ANCIENT BRITISH, North Thames Region, Catuvellauni and Trinovantes, Inscribed coins, Cunobelinus Bucrania type, (c.8-41 A.D.), silver unit, (0.93 g), obv. corded crossed wreath, snake heads at ends, central lozenge with ringed-pellet in middle, bucrania and ram's head at opposite corners, snakes or dragons in other four quarters, rev. horse leaping left, with beaded mane and large nostrils, straps around neck and chest, branch and pellet triad above, ringed-pellet in front, CVNO monogram below, beaded border, (S.-, ABC 2837, Van A -, NT 8, BMC -, M -). Toned silver, clear animal heads, complete inscription, well ornamented, nearly extremely fine - extremely fine and excessively rare, one of the finest known.

Chris Rudd notes that it is probably the first coin issued by Cunobelin and the beautiful condition allows us to appreciate the engraver's art.
