VALENS, (A.D. 364-378), gold solidus, Antioch mint, issued 366-367, 3rd Officina, (4.41 g), obv. pearl diademed, draped and cuirassed bust to right of Valens around DN VALENS PER F AVG, rev. Valens standing facing head to right, holding labarum and Victory, RESTITVTOR REIPVBLICAE around, ANT**G*. in exergue, (S.4104, RIC IX 2d xvi, C.32, Depeyrot 27/3). Slight hoard discolouration on obverse, otherwise very fine or better and scarce.

Ex Dr. V.J.A. Flynn Collection and previously from M.R.Roberts retail sale in packet described and from Noble Numismatics Sale 105 (lot 3915).
