CIMMERIAN BOSPHORUS, Thrace, Black Sea Area, Pantikapaion, (3rd century B.C.), AE 20, (5.54 g), obv. head of Pan to left, wearing ivy wreath, overstruck with countermark of star, rev. lion's head to left, **PAN* around, overstruck with bowcase, (S.1701, SNG BM 886-889, BMC 23, SNG Cop. 37-40, SNG Stancomb 554-555). Dark brown patina, host coin very fine, countermarks extremely fine and scarce.

Ex Gary Davies Collection and from Baldwin's Sale 30, 7th-8th May, 2002 (lot 787 illustrated) and Noble Numismatics Sale 74 (lot 4450).
