Able Seaman 1st Class Walter Taylor, mariner, born 1874; 01Aug1900 volunteered for service in China whilst a member of the South Australian Naval Force serving on HMCS Protector; Emb.06Aug1900 from Port Adelaide for Hong Kong via Sydney, Brisbane and the Philippines; Arrived 10Sep1900 at Hong Kong and placed under command of Royal Navy and to patrol and dispatch duty to Woosung, Shanghai, Taku and Wei Hai Wei; Emb.06Nov1900 from Hong Kong for Port Melbourne; participated in Commonwealth Celebrations in Sydney 01Jan1900; Arrived 06Jan1901 at Adelaide; Died in South Australia 22May1949.
