TRIO: Egypt Medal 1882 (undated reverse), - clasp - Suakin 1885; Queen's South Africa Medal 1899, - clasp - Cape Colony; Khedive's Star 1884-6. 373 Pte. J.Oram. N.S.W.Infy on first medal, 60 Pte J.Oram, N.S.W., A.M.C. on second medal, last medal unnamed as issued. First medal engraved, second medal impressed. Display mounted, good very fine.

Together with Lord Mayor of Sydney Soudan Medal, 1885, in silver (28mm) (C.1885/10), unnamed but appears to be some indistinguishable initials (SA?) scratched in naming area; also Departure To and Return From Soudan medalets in gilt (C.1885/3, G/1).

John Oram (also recorded as Oran and James John Oram), painter and later engineer, born 06Nov1864 at London, England; Enl.18Feb1885 in NSW Infy with previous service in 6th Dragoon Guards; Disemb.29Mar1885 at Sudan; attached to Guards Brigade and march to New Tamai where there was a skirmish then to Tofrik and back to Suakin 02Apr1885; to Number 1 Blockhouse 06Apr1885; Camel Corps training from 16Apr1885; RTA 18May1885; arrived Sydney and to typhoid quarantine 12Jun1885; Disch.23Jun1885; served with 2 Infy Regt (Militia); Enl.23Oct1899 for service in South Africa; Emb.28Oct1899 with 1AAMC Contingent; Disemb.02Dec1899 at Cape Town and to camp at Green Point; train to Orange River Station 20Dec1899 and established Field Hospital plus operations in local area in support of Lord Robert's advance to Kimberley; Died of enteric fever at Orange River Station 22Feb1900; buried at Orange River Station and later re-buried at West End Cemetery, Kimberley Garden of Remembrance.
