PICENUM, Hatria, (c.275-225 B.C.), AE cast As, (370 g), obv. head of Selinus facing, I in right field, rev. sleeping dog curled right, below [HAT], (S.-, HN Italy 11, ICC 236, Thurlow-Vecchi 181). Attractive green patina, uneven flan from casting, otherwise nearly very fine and very rare.

Ex Alan McRae Collection and acquired from an old collection sold in Hong Kong.

Hatria (now Atri in the Abruzzo region of Central Italy), a town of Picenum in eastern Italy, was situated close to the Adriatic Sea between the rivers Vomanus and Matrinus (modern Vomano and La Piomba).
