ITALY, Lucania, Metapontum, (C.510-480 B.C.), silver diobol 12 mm, (1.28 g), obv. five-grained ear of barley, border of dots between two concentric linear circles, MET to right, rev. Bull's head (bucranium), rayed border, (cf.S.440, Noe 287. SNG ANS 269, SNG Cop.1176, HGC 1, 1071 [R]). An attractive example, rare thus, very sharply struck and with a lovely dark grey patina as found. Good very fine, very rare.
