MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.6 grams), Tyre mint, issued 305-290 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, ornamented with serpent, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, monogram in left field, trace of monogram in right field, to right **ALEXANDP[OU], (cf.S.6702; Price 3459, [M.1601], BMC 3549). Extremely fine, usual surface for this posthumous issue from this mint, trace of original mint bloom.
