Lot 1659       Florins

Estimate $22,500
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $21,000

HEATON MINT, proof or specimen florin, Birmingham 1914H. Well struck with full original sealed or patinated proof-like surfaces, attractively toned to a gun metal grey with some iridescence and olive toning on the reverse, FDC and extremely rare, only three known, struck as a proof, this is equal to the finest known.

Ex Birmingham Mint Museum and Spink Australia Sale 15 (lot 721) and Sale 23 (lot 1505). Curiouslu a raised hairlike occurs behind the king's head in the obverse field, the result of harsh polising of the die while the fields overall exhibit the characteristic 'orange peel' effect.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
