GALLO-BELGIC, Imported to Britain, uninscribed coinage, Gallo-Belgic C, Ambiani type, (c.90 - 80 B.C.), plated stater, (3.21 grams), obv. Celticized abstracted head of Apollo left, with worn features, rev. Celticized horse to right, with crescent and dot below horse, (S.5, cf.Mack SCBI No.26, Van A. 42-3 [a similar plated example]). Very good/nearly very fine and extremely rare.

Van Arsdell records a similar piece with low weight, it being gold plated on a copper core as is this example. That published example was found during excavations at Danebury. He regards the issue as an ancient forgery.
