KINGS OF WESSEX, Alfred the Great (A.D. 871-899) silver penny, issued c.880, (1.18 grams), obv. diademed bust right, AELFRED REX around, rev. Londonia monogram, (S.1061, N.644, BMC vi). As a lkarge fragment, edge chipped, otherwise very fine and rare.

Ex R. Cullum Collection, purchased from B.A. Seaby, Ltd, London, February 11, 1948 for £2.18.0.
