CENTENNIAL INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION, Melbourne, 1888, in silver (51mm) by Melbourne Mint - Stokes & Martin (C.1888/8) impressed around edge 'Sir Henry Barkly G.C.M.G:K.C.B.'. More than one obverse die was used to strike both the silver and bronze medals. The position of the lettering in the relation to the bust varies. Extremely fine.

Sir Henry Barkly (1815-1898) Governor of Victoria 1856-63, founder and President of Royal Society of Victoria and helped found the National Gallery, Acclimatization Society and National Observatory. He was also a Commissioner on the London Committee for the 1888 Exhibition.
