CHARLES I, silver medal 28mm, 1628, by Nicholas Briot, obv. shield of Britain crowned within collar and badge of the Order of the Thistle, around CAROLVS D G ANG SCO FRAN ET HIB REX FIDEI DEF., rev. a sceptre and trident crossed united by cord, roses as stop, in exergue 1628, around REGIT VNVS VTROQVE, (M.I. 27 [p.259-260], Eimer 112). Toned, good very fine, very scarce.

M.I. note that it was struck in 1628, when Charles was calling upon the Parliament to increase the military and naval forces of the kingdom to enable him in the spirit of the medal to rule both by land and sea. It has been supposed to be a pattern for a shilling.
