PAPAL STATES, Vatican, Pope Pius VI (1774-1799), copper medal, 50mm, possibily by Gioacchino Hamerani, commemorates the burdens borne by Pius during his pontificate, obv. bust of Pius VI to right wearing skullcap, rev. Christ and cross (Bowdoin catalogue 139). Extremely fine and rare.

An issue made about 1798, but could also have been made in 1814 following the restoration of the papacy by Pius VII.
