PRIMITIVE MONEY, Africa, Zaire or Congo, anchor or lance money, in copper, attributed to Bangala (Opitz p.102, Althoff p.30) and Lobala and Banja groups of the Ngbaka people (Ballarini B5.145, Westerdijk, 1984, #123), length 23 cm, width 15.5cm, with single row of stippled decoration around the edge. Very fine and rare.

These unusual shaped objects could also have been used as currency.
