THEODOSIUS II, (A.D. 402-450), gold solidus, Constantinople mint, issued A.D. c.425, (3.84 g), obv. helmeted and cuirassed bust of Theodosius facing with spear and shield, around D N THEODO SIVS P F AVG, rev. SALVS REI PVBLICAE Theodosius enthroned and Valentinian standing facing both in consular robes, star above, CONOB in exergue, (S.21143, RIC 233-6, MIRB 22). Obverse scratches, very fine, has been mounted and filed on edge, rare.

Slabed by ICG at AU58.
Issued to commemorate Theodosius' eleventh consulship and Valentinian's first.
