FINE ARTS EXHIBITION, London, 1873, exhibitor's medal in gilt white metal (70mm) by G.T.Morgan, obverse, draped bust of Prince Albert, left, around Albert.Edward.Prince.of.Wales.President, reverse, building facade, edge impressed 'Melbourne Meat Preserving Company'(BHM 2964, Eimer 1622). Edge nicks, surface marks, nearly extremely fine.

The Melbourne Meat Preserving Company established in Van Ness Ave, Maribynong, Vic, in 1867 pioneered and developed meat processing in Victoria. By 1870 it was Australia's largest meat preserving company producing fresh and canned meat, meat extract, fertilizer, tallow, skins and hides. The company closed in 1888.
