HMAS SYDNEY - SMS EMDEN, Nov 9 1914, salvaged Mexican silver eight reales, 1894M.L. Alamos Mint, from the wreck of the Emden together with letter from the Sydney Captain J.C.T. Glossop forwarding the salved coin, written in pencil at bottom left, 'J A Costi RNR/23/1/19'. Fine. (letter + coin)

Together with a roneod list of crew on HMAS Sydney on 9 Nov 1914.

After using salvaged coins from the wreck of the Emden to produce medals for the crew and other selected individuals and organisations, excess coins were sold to raise funds for the RAN Relief Fund.
