VALENS, (A.D. 364-378), gold solidus, Antioch mint, issued 366, 7th Officina, (4.23 g), obv. pearl diademed, draped and cuirassed bust to right of Valens around DN VALENS PER F AVG, rev. Valens standing facing head to right, holding labarum and Victory on globe, RESTITVTOR REIPVBLICAE around, ANTZ (dot) in exergue, (S.4088, RIC 2c viii, C.28, Depeyrot 19/1). Light graffiti in reverse field, some hoard discolouration, otherwise nearly very fine.

Ex Dr V.J.A.Flynn Collection and previously Status International Sale 310 (lot 8141), also Noble Numismatics Sale 105 (lot 3893).
