Australian M.R. on first medal, 615 Serjt. J.H.Swanson. S. Aust: I.B. on second medal, 3501 Pte J.H.Swanson. 10/Bn. A.I.F. on third medal, 3501 SQMS: J.H.Swanson 10Bn. A.I.F. on last two medals. All medals impressed, number on second medal officially corrected. Very fine.

James Hamilton Swanson, born 27Aug1881 at Adelaide; Enl.17Oct1899 in 1st Sth Aust Mounted Rifles for service in South Africa as No.36 Private; RTA from South Africa and Re-Enl.1901 in 6th Sth Aust Imperial Bushmen as No.615 Sgt; WWI: at age 33 and listing occupation as stevedore, Enl.26Jul1915 with previous service in School Cadets and also in above units in South Africa; Emb.27Oct1915; TOS 50Bn 29Feb1916; to 4th Div Fld Bakery 20Mar1916; trf to 1st Aust Fld Bakery 27Jul1916; to Sgt 28Jul1916; to Staff Sgt 03Aug1916; to SQMS 15Oct1918; RTA 03Jul1919; Disemb.22Aug1919; Disch.14Oct1919; a foundation member of the South African Soldiers' Assn; worked for South Australian Railways; died suddenly in early January 1927 at Norwod, Adelaide, Sth Aust and buried at West Terrace Cemetery.
