TRIO: Queen's South Africa Medal 1899, (type 3 reverse), - three clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannesburg; King's South Africa Medal, - two clasps - South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902; Coronation Medal 1911. Lieut: C.F.Brace, N.S.Wales Art: on first medal, Capt. C.F.Brace. N.S.W. Art. on second medal, Capt. C.F.Brace. N.S.W.A. on last medal. All medals engraved. In a fitted case, swing mounted with last medal incorrectly mounted first, KSA ribbon damaged, medals toned extremely fine.

Confirmed that Capt Charles Frederick Brace (Retired List) was a member of the Army Contingent to the Coronation. Capt Brace was the only Australian QSA/KSA recipient to be awarded the 1911 Coronation Medal.

Charles Frederick Brace, was born 17 October 1858 at Ballarat, Vic; he completed his education at Scot's College Ballarat and in 1880 spent two years in NSW before moving to England in 1882 for a time; on his return to Sydney he was commissioned 2 Lieutenant in NSW Artillery 09Jul1894 serving out of Victoria Barracks at Paddington in Sydney; appt'd 1st Lieutenant 01May1896; he completed a course of coast defence instruction at South Head, Sydney and also obtained a certificate for proficiency in infantry drill; in 1897 was acting adjutant of 2nd Garrison Artillery; in 1899, while attached to No.2 Coy, under Major Murray, he passed a 6-months' instruction course at the Victoria Barracks and Middle Head; appt'd senior subaltern of No.4 Coy Garrison Division Artillery; appt'd as a Special Service Officer for the Transvaal; Emb.17Jan1900 from Sydney on Moravian; arrived Cape Town 16Feb1900 and attached to 23rd Coy Royal Artillery; joined Pom Pom Depot at Stellenbosch 06Mar1900 as Staff Officer to Colonel Crampton, RArty; to Lt 01Apr1900 (see Military Order 122 of 1906 in London Gazette No.27863 dated 12 December 1905, Special Service Officers - to be Lieutenant dated 1 April 1900 - Charles Frederick Brace); 17Jun1900 appt CO of 'V' Section Pom Poms and proceeded to Johanessburg; 08Jul1900 placed in command of an armoured train operation between Pretoria and Kroonstad; Oct1900 to Reinforce Springs's and assumed command of Garrison; 10Jan1901 returned to Pretoria for duty; 08Jul1901 invalided to England; Feb1902 took charge of shipment of horses from Fiume, Hungary for Durban and then to Pretoria and joined Remount Depot; Emb.23Aug1902 from Capetown on S.S.Damascus and arrived Sydney 16Sep1902; later moved to England and in 1915 it was recorded in the London Gazette that he had been appointed a Major in the Royal Horse Artillery.
