FAMILY GROUP: WWI: Trio to Father: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 61 Pte A.J.Clarke. 1/Aust:Vet:Sec: on first medal, 61 L/Cpl A.J.Clarke. Vet. Cps. A.I.F. on last two medals. WWII/Korea: Group of Eight to Son: 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Pacific Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45; Korea Medal 1950-53; United Nations Korea Medal 1950-53. First three medals unnamed, NX5026 W.J.Clarke on fourth to sixth medals, 2/4228 W.J.Clarke on last two medals. All named medals impressed. Both groups court mounted, fine - very fine.

Ex Liverpool Stamps & Coins in September 1974.

Together with Anzac Commemorative Medallion 1915, issued in 1967, in bronze (50x75mm) (C.1915/3), named to A.J.Clarke.

Father: Arthur Joseph Clarke, driver, age 18, born at St Marys, Wellington, NZ now resident at Mort St, Balmain; Enl.26Oct1914 at Liverpool, NSW in 1st Veterinary Section; Emb.18Dec1914; TOS 4th Mobile Vet Sec 13Mar1916; TOS 1Bn 16Sep1916; WIA 5-8May1917 SW to head, France; to L/Cpl 31May1918; RTA 24Sep1918; Disch.30May1919.

Son: (WWII) Wallace Joseph Clarke 24228 (NX5026), born 29May1919 at Paddington, Sydney, NSW; Enl.03Nov1939 at Marrickville, NSW; Disch.18Oct1945 as Cpl ex 2/3 Infy Bn; (Korea) stated birth date as 29May1920 at Sydney, NSW; Sgt in RAInfy Corps, served with 1Bn RAR 07Apr-03May1952.

Pte Wallace Joseph Clarke was subject to Court Martial at Julis, a village in Gaza, Palestine, on 06Aug1940 charged with, 'Being a soldier on active service, stealing goods the property of a person subject to military law, in that he at Julis on the night of 12/13/April 1940 stole a pistol No.72662 the property of Pte. K.J.Halliwell, a person subject to military law.' Result was a fine of £2 Australian but this was squashed on a technicality by Lt-Gen Sir T.A.Blamey CB, CMG, DSO, G.O.C., A.I.F. (M.E.). He did however lose his pay during the week of his confinement awaiting a hearing.
