PAIR: Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration (GRI), with brooch bar; Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal (GVR). Lt Col. H.K.Denham. D.S.O. U.L. on first medal, Lt. Colonel H.K.Denham. D.S.O. Unattached List. Both medals engraved. Display mounted out of order, extremely fine.

Private purchase in November 1978.

Entitled to DSO and MID.

CAFOD: CAG No.82 27/10/1921, p1489 and same No.82 6/11/1924, p2132.

DSO: LG 4/6/1917, p5475; CAG 4/10/1917, p2626 to Lt-Col H.K.Denham 46Bn.

Recommendation: Joined the A.I.F. in August 1915, he has consistently and courageously carried out his duties with ceaseless energy and dauntless spirit. Since he has had command of his Battalion he has displayed his qualities as an organizer, disciplinarian and leader. His devotion to duty is worthy of the highest praise.

MID: LG 4/1/1917, p256; CAG 29/6/1917, p1393 to Maj H.K.Denham 46Bn.

Recommendation: As Second-in-Command of his battalion has been of the greatest help and support to his Commanding Officer. He has been untiring in his efforts at all times and has shown marked qualities of leadership and organization.

MID (2nd occasion): LG 1/6/1917, p5422; CAG 4/10/1917, p2624 to Lt-Col H.K.Denham 46Bn.

Howard Kynaston Denham BA, LLB, MB Ch M Sydney University, born 14Feb1883 at Glebe Point, Sydney, NSW; served with Sydney University Scouts 2nd Lieut; Lieut 01Aug1906, Capt 05May1908, Maj 01Jul1913; applied for Commission 20Oct1915; Emb.09Nov1915 with 30Bn; TOS 46Bn 20Mar1916; to Lt Col 02Dec1916; RTA 12May1918 as result of Trench Fever; appointment terminated 05Jul1918 Medically Unfit; returned to Sydney University Scouts commanding the unit until Mar1921; had an extensive medical career; died at Cremorne, Sydney, NSW 21Oct1972.
