MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold quarter stater, (2.10 g), Miletus mint, issued c.323-319 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, hair plaited, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, KH monogram in left field, to right double axe, **ALEXANDPOU*, (S.6709; Price 2117 (p.282), SNG BMC 2117, M.578, Thompson Miletus Pl.27, Nos.179-180). Good very fine, well centred, cleaned with minor surface scratches on the obverse, a very rare denomination.

Ex Brian Bolton Collection and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 91 (lot 3365).
The coin originally had encrustation on the obverse, this has been removed since its last sale.
