ITALY, Lucania, Poseidonia, (c.530-500 B.C.), silver stater, (6.43 g), obv. Poseidon, naked but for chlamys over shoulder, advancing right brandishing trident in right hand and extending left arm, **POS* to left, dotted border, rev. Poseidon striding left as on obverse, reversed and incuse **POS* (retrograde), (cf.S.241, Jameson 331, SNG ANS 604-5, Gorini 3, Dewing 396, HN Italy 1107). Attractively toned, well struck and well centred, light porosity, otherwise nearly extremely fine and very rare.
