Osmond Howard Alsop, DSC, RANVR, born Adelaide 10Apr1915; Prob-Sub-Lieut, RANVR, 16Feb1939: Enl.02Nov1939 at Sydney, NSW; Mobilised 23Feb1940: Specialist Qualification: A/S (Anti-Submarine): Lieut - HMS Nasturtium - 16Jan1941 to 28Feb1941; Awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (LG 9/9/1941, p5205) 'for skill and devotion to duty in action against enemy submarines.', presented by H.M. The King at Buckingham Palace on 14Apr1942; Disch.28Oct1945 as Lieut ex HMAS Rushcutter.
Lieutenant Alsop, a keen yachtsman, was educated at The Armidale School. He served his articles with the firm of Yarwood, Vane & Co, chartered accountants of Sydney and just before joining the navy he had accepted an appointment with Woolworths Ltd.
