MARCUS AURELIUS AS CAESAR, (A.D. 139-161), AE sestertius, issue struck at Rome, A.D.145, (26.83 g), obv. AVRELIVS CAE SAR AVG P II F COS, bare head to right, slight drapery on far shoulder, rev. Marcus Aurelius, holding eagle-tipped sceptre, driving slow quadriga left, side panel of quadriga decorated with Victory, S C in exergue, (S.4810, RIC 1247, C.582, Banti 297 [same dies]). Dark green patina, some smoothing and tooling, very fine.

Ex Dr V.J.A.Flynn Collection and previously CNG Auction 202, lot 297. With ticket.

The obverse legend had been altered from ending COS II to simply COS.
