PERMANENT FORCES OF THE EMPIRE BEYOND THE SEAS LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, (GVR). 143 Acting Bdr J.A.Butler. R.A.G.A. Chisel engraved, with some adjustment at rank. Hairlines, otherwise good very fine.

Joseph Arthur Butler, blacksmith, born 06Jul1883 at Queenscliff, Vic; Enl.22Aug1901 in Aust Instructional Corps and to duty at Fort Queenscliff; to Bombardier 31Dec1904; to Gunner 22Aug1905; Re-Enl.22Aug1906 with RAA; Re-Enl.22Aug1909 with R.Aust Garrison Arty and again 22Aug1910; to Bombardier 01Jul1914; Re-Enl.22Aug1915 with R.Aust Garrison Arty, again on 22Aug1918, again 22Aug1930, again 22Aug1933, again 22Aug1936, and again 22Aug1939; to Aust Instructional Corps 30Sep1940 and to duty 2 Fld Bde as Regt Q'Master Sgt; to WOII 01Mar1941; suspended from duty 30Apr1941; convicted by civil court to 3 months prison for stealing items from the Army; Disch.19Jul1941; Died 12Jul1966 at Cheltenham, Vic.
