CALIGULA, (A.D. 37-41), AE as, Rome mint, issued A.D. 37-38, (11.008 grams), obv. bare head of Caligula to left, around C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS PON M TR P0T, rev. VESTA above, Vesta seated to left, veiled and draped seated on ornamental throne, holding patera and transverse sceptre, S C across field, (S.1803, RIC 38, BMC 46). Attractive green patina on the reverse and round well centred flan, very fine and rare in this condition.
