SICILY, Catana, (450-420 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.150 grams), obv. slow quadriga driven to right by male charioteer holding goad, rev. laureate head of Apollo to right, hair turned up behind, before off flan [KATANAION], (S.767 [£1500], cf.SNG ANS 1247 [similar dies], BMC 23 [same dies], Rizzo Pl.XI, No.7, [same dies as this example]). Off centred on the obverse, pitting and porosity edge striking split, otherwise good fine/ nearly fine, rare.

This die is very distinctive in having a larger head than usual for this type.
