SICILY, Messana, (445-439 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.486 grams), obv. biga of mules driven to right by seated male charioteer, Nike flying above, in exergue olive leaf, rev. **MESSA NION* (some letters reversed), hare running to right, (cf.S.842 [£500], Caltabiano 369/380 [obv.die 166, rev. die 162, no specimens known from this die combination]). Struck on a small flan, otherwise fine and a very rare die combination.
