SICILY, Messana, (420-413 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (15.814 grams), obv. biga of mules driven to left by seated male charioteer, two dolphins below in exergue, **[M]ESSAN* above, rev. **MES S AN IO N*, hare running to right, dolphin to right below, (cf.S.842 [£500], Caltabiano 514 [obv.die 205' rev. die 213, 8 specimens known from this die combination]). With original hoard patina, surface scratches and corrosion, otherwise fine and a rare die combination.
