MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.090 grams), Byblos mint, issued 330-320 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, AP monogram to left, to right **ALEXANDROU, (cf.S.6713, Price 3426, BMC 3426d similar style, M.1375, SNG Ash 3006-3013). Slightly off centred on the obverse, lightly toned extremely fine.

The reverse monogram has an extra leg upwards suggesting a new monogram, however it appears more likely to be a die break. The obverse and reverse have very close die similarity to the issues of the above type from Byblos and surely comes from that mint.
