THRACE, Messebria, Philip II and Serapis, (A.D. 244-249), AE 27, (12.179 grams), obv. Laureate head to right of Philip II facing draped bust of Serapis, around MAP IOV**LIO FILIPPO*C, in exergue KAICAP, rev. Hera standing to left holding patera and sceptre, around MECAMBP IAN**WN*, (cf.S.4076, BMC -, SNG Cop. 667-8 [same obverse die], Seaby C&M Hoard 9/69 -). Bronze with delightful dark green and brown surface patina, extremely fine but weak in places, very rare, the type apparently unpublished.
