ATTICA, Athens, (500-490/482 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.94 grams), obv. crude Archaic style head of Athena to right wearing Attic helmet, rev. owl standing to right, head facing with broad neck, body of dot olive twig and two leaves, with central berry, to right, **[A]Q[E], all in incuse square, (S.1845 [£1000], cf.Asyut Hoard 349 [Group IV], Seltman Group G, No.197, [A133, P153, similar if not the same dies], SNG Cop. 15-18). Small flan as usual, generally well centred, with attractive light grey tone, good very fine, very rare.

Ex. Superior Coin Auction, 5th October 1977 (lot 957). where is is described as being from Coin Galleries, New York c.1963.
