BITHYNIA, Kingdom of, Nicomedes IV, (94-74 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (15.996 grams), issued year 209 = 89-88 B.C., obv. head of Nicomedes II to right, with diadem, rev. Zeus standing to left, holding wreath and sceptre, eagle on thunderbolt to left, before Zeus monogram of MHN, to right **BASILEWS* to left **EPIFANOUS NIKOMHDOU*, below the date **QS* (209), (S.7276, cf.BMC 5 [p.215 same monogram previous year], SNG Von Post 161 [same obverse die], cf.SNG Cop. 651). nearly extremely fine, rare.

From the reign of Nicomedes II the regal tetradrachms of Bithynia bear dates according to an era commencing in 298 B.C., those of this reign range from years 205-224.
