EGYPT, Kingdom of, Ptolemy I (323-283 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (15.472 grams), issued 310-305 B.C., obv. head of Alexander to right with horn of Ammon, clad in elephant skin and aegis, dotted border, **L under head on aegis, rev. **ALEXANDROU on left, Athena Alkidemos to right with spear and shield, monograms XA on right to extreme right helmet, eagle off flan lower right, (cf.S.7750, Sv.162, Zervos 28, SNG Cop. 29). Attractive grey cabinet patina, otherwise nearly extremely fine and rare.

Ex. Spink & Son, London, December 1997. The signature of the moneyer **L* is most unusual as most signed types are **D*. This specimen was examined by the British Museum in December 1997. The British Museum confirmed the attribution.
