AUGUSTUS, (27 B.C. - A.D. 14), AE as, Rome mint, issued 6 B.C. by Volusus Valerius Messalla, (10.37 grams), obv. bare head to right of Augustus around CAESAR AVGVST PONT MAX T[RIBVNIC POT], rev. VOLVSVS VALE[R MESSAL III] VIR A A A F F around large SC, (cf.S.510, RIC 441, C.538, CBN 738). Attractive black patina, off centred on the reverse, otherwise good fine and scarce.
