CALIGULA, (A.D. 37-41), AE as, Rome mint, issued A.D. 37-38, (10.366 grams), obv. bare head of Caligula to left, around C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS P M TR POT, rev. VESTA above, Vesta seated to left, veiled and draped seated on ornamental throne, holding patera and transverse sceptre, S C across field, (S.616, RIC 38, BMC 46). Attractive light brown patina with minor surface roughness, otherwise very fine and very rare in this condition.
