MALUKA (WITHIN THE OLD KINGDOM OF BANDJAMASIN, South Borneo) (1812 - 1818 under administration of Alexander Hare who later in 1826 settled in Kealing Cocos Islands in partnership with Clunies Ross). Doits of Alexander Hare, obverse fan shape with date A.H. 1227 below and reverse value in arabic (5) all 1812, two countermarked with Dharmacakra or wheel of law (Pr 3 (3) and 4 (3)) and with shield both sides (4) all 1813, two with similar countermark (Pr 5 (2) and 6 (2). Attractive patinas, a good selection of the collectable types. Fine - good very fine and generally scarce to rare (10).
A single piece (Pr 4) ex Carnegie Museum of Natural History (lot 777 part) Collection, the others all ex F.Pridmore (lot 243) Collection, a variety of Pr 4 also ex E.Wodak 21/6/1952. One Pr 3 is overstruck on an 1811 Java doit (not noticed previously by Pridmore or Peter Mitchell).
