DII NVTRITORES, Jupiter and Saloninus standing facing each other, (S.10765, RIC 35, RSC 21); Valerian I, (A.D. 253-260), silver antoninianus, Cologne mint, issued 257-9, (3.77 g), obv. radiate bust right, VALERIANVS P F AVG around, rev. ORIENS AVGG around, Sol advancing left, holding whip, (S.9952, RIC 12, RSC 143a, Hunter 53). Very fine, first rare. (2)
The unusual reverse on the first coin honours the 'nourishing gods' and although only Jupiter is depicted it is implied that all of them had joined in nurturing the young heir to the throne.
