VICVI (VICTORIAN CENTENARY & SIXTH AUSTRALASIAN PHILATELIC EXHIBITION), Melbourne 1934, philatelic prize medal in gilt bronze (38x50mm) (C.1934/11), by Stokes, reverse impressed, 'S. Orlo-Smith/Hon.Secretary/For Services'; Australia's 150th Anniversary Philatelic Exhibition, Sydney, 1938, prize medal in silver (32x45mm) (C.1938/11), by Amor, obverse, Sirius under full sail to left with 1788 below, reverse, a Catalina flying boat on water and facing left, at the bottom inscribed, 'Covers./S. Orlo Smith'. Both medals with two pierced holes at the top with suspension chain added,
Stanley (Stan) Orlo-Smith was a Melbourne stamp dealer and an expert on the Australian one penny red George V head stamps editing and contributing to various stamp catalogues through his company, Orlo-Smith & Co., advertised as Australia's leading stamp merchants operating out of premises at 244 Collins Street, Melbourne until his death on 20 March 1946. Not only was Mr Orlo-Smith a leading figure in philatelic circles but he was also highly regarded in the Masonic Lodge. He was past master and founding master of the first philatelic lodge in the world as well as past master of the Surrey Hills Lodge. He was a former president of the Melbourne Theosophical Society and chairman of the trustees and he was also a former president of the Glenferrie Recreation Club.
