Mary Hamilton 'May' Speirs was one of New Zealand's outstanding tennis players. She married Harry Mitchell Dykes in 1929 and continued to play competition tennis winning the New Zealand championship in 1931 as Mrs Dykes.^^The Nunneley Casket originated from Kathleen Nunneley who was the best woman tennis player in New Zealand in the late 1890s and early 1900s. She had her tennis gold medals made into a trophy, the Nunneley Casket, which was competed for in interprovincial women's tennis. It is still awarded to the champion women's tennis team.
