King's South Africa Medal - two bars - South Africa 1901; South Africa 1902. Captain T. Thompson DSO, Thorneyscroft's M.I. Son. Pair. British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal. 2000 W.H. Thompson 46 Bn. A.I.F. Two pairs. Impressed. Very fine. $ Capt.T. Thompson. M.I.D. 'For conspicuous gallantry in an attack on Wessel's commando in September, in charging a donga from which the enemy was firing heavily.' Together with extract from 'The Colonials in South Africa 1899-1902'. 'Lieutenant Thomas Thompson was the son of Thomas Thompson, of Hillside, Pakenham, Victoria, Australia. He was educated at a private school in Victoria, Australia, and served a year with the Victorian Rangers, two years with the Victorian Mounted Rifles, and twenty months with Thorneycroft's Mounted Infantry. He served in the South African War of 1899-1902; was mentioned in Dispatches; received the King's Medal with two clasps, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order {London Gazette, 19 April, 1902}: 'Thomas Thompson, Lieut., Thorneycroft's Mounted Infantry. In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa.' The Insignia was sent to the Commander in-Chief in South Africa, and presented by Colonel Ternan at Spitzkop 8 Jan. 1902. Mr Thompson's favourite recreations were cricket and racing.'
