DURHAM, South Shields, halfpenny, a countermark die consisting of a ship sailing right on a shield, so shield at top of shield struck on a light brown copper blank or worn halfpenny, (of Charles II?) striking crack in flan (Davis 30). Countermark nearly extremely fine and very rare.
