MACEDON, Kingdom of, Perseus, (179-168 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (15.09 grams), reduced weight series, obv. diademed head of Perseus head to right, rev. eagle to right with open wings, standing to right on thunderbolt, BASI LEWS and PERSEWS across field, monograms above, to right and below in fields, all within oak wreath, plough beneath wreath, (S.6804; A. Mamroth, 'Die Silbermunzen des Konigs Perseus', ZfN 38 (1928); 22, Giessener Munhandlung Sale 48, lot 266 similar reverse die). Nearly extremely fine and a rare variant.
