REPUBLIC, C. Piso L. f Frugi, (c.67 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, obv. head of Apollo to left with fillet, reversed I behind, rev. naked horseman galloping to right, holding palm branch, below, C PISO L.F. FRV, symbol diagonal line above, (cf.S.291, Cr. 408, Syd. 853). Slightly off centred on the reverse, otherwise attractive dark tone with very high relief, extremely fine and rare thus.

This moneyer was the son of L. Piso Frugi and adopted for his coins the type used by his father. C. Piso married Tullia, daughter of Cicero, in B.C. 63 and in B.C. 58 he was appointed Quaestor.
